Dr George Loram
Oh hey there, I’m George (he/him). I’m a clinical psychologist currently based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) on beautiful Arrernte Country.
I have completed a Doctor of Psychology (Clinical), which basically means that I have an interest in research as well as being a psychologist (and means that I can use the “Dr” prefix, even though I have no idea how to fix a broken leg). My research was on the topic of ADHD and sleep problems in adolescents.
My passion is helping people to improve their lives. To do this, I draw from a wide variety of different therapies. More importantly, however, I will take the time to listen to your story, get to know you, and collaborate with you to make a plan that best suits your needs. Open communication is an important part of my practice, and I always aim to foster a warm, empathetic environment where you feel safe and heard. Speaking of safety, this is an LGBTQIA+ friendly space and I work with people from all cultural backgrounds.

A bit more about me.
Some of the places I have worked or completed training include: Eastern Health Child and Youth Mental Health, Barwon Pain Management Clinic, Camperdown Primary Mental Health Team, headspace, residential mental health facilities, and a psychiatric hospital in Vietnam.
Currently, I’m working in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) for a large Aboriginal Health Organisation (Congress). This involves providing psychological support to Indigenous people and their families; working in a remote community; facilitating a men’s group; and supporting young people and their families through headspace (youth mental health).
These varied roles have given me a unique perspective on how mental health looks different in different cultures, and has also highlighted the importance of factors like connection with family, culture, spirituality and Country. These are things that I try to incorporate into my practice as much as possible.
Some people like to know a little bit about their psychologist, so here’s a little about me. I grew up in Melbourne and have lived there most of my life. I used to be a photographer, and transitioned to becoming a psychologist during my late 20s (all the photos on this website are photos that I’ve taken on my travels around Australia). Music is a big part of my life - listening, playing, and writing. Being outdoors is my happy place, and I spend a lot of time camping, hiking and swimming. I also recently adopted a dog (Archie) who is one day going to be a therapy dog!
Finding a psychologist, whether it’s for the first time or the tenth time, can be a daunting experience. I try to make this process as easy and transparent as possible, and am more than happy to have a chat over the phone to see if you think we might be a good match.
